NBM preparation: do the work that earns the room
Research, a draft Value Pyramid, a prep call, and a cheat sheet. The preparation that separates a real NBM from a fake one.

Preparation is what separates a real NBM from a fake one. The work you do before the meeting decides how much of the meeting you get to spend on what actually matters.
Research the company and the person
Understand what the company does, how it makes money, and its stated priorities this year. Then go a level deeper into the person you are meeting: what they own, what they are measured on, and what would make them look good to their boss in the next 90 days. You do not need an AI tool to do this, but a good one accelerates it. The planner gives you copy-paste research prompts you run in your own ChatGPT or Claude.
Build a draft Value Pyramid
Map their goals to the strategies and initiatives your contacts own, the obstacles in the way, and the needs you can meet. Entering with a draft lets you ask sharper questions, speak their internal language, and co-create the picture live. Build one at value-pyramid.com and bring a one-line summary into the room.
Run a prep call
If you do not have a Champion or a clear view of the pain, run a short prep call first. Treat it as a qualification signal. People who show up to a 5 to 10 minute prep call are qualifying themselves in. People who will not may be a fake NBM, and that is fine to walk away from.
Prepare a cheat sheet and a deck
- Rank your objectives. Number one is the outcome you will not leave without.
- Write your sharpest discovery and implication questions.
- Jot the names for the 3-name game: other leaders, Coaches, and a possible Economic Buyer.
- Build a deck that opens with their biggest challenge, sequences examples logically, and stays clean and minimal.
No Champion, or no view of the pain yet? The prep call is not a consolation prize. It is how you earn a real NBM.
